Doctors at A&E are not normally equipped to handle dental emergencies.

So, you should avoid going to A&E for an issue to do with your teeth unless it is causing complications that are life-threatening – for example, because you are experiencing uncontrolled bleeding or are having difficulty breathing.

What can I do if tooth pain is unbearable?

If you are experiencing unbearable tooth pain while waiting for a dental appointment, you should take over-the-counter pain medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

You may also try gargling with salt water (taking care to avoid swallowing the water) and/or placing a cold compress or ice pack against your cheek to help numb
